Family Roots
Where time began to take care
It was at the end of the 19th century that the land began to intertwine with the story of the Caliandro family. Angelo, Rocco’s great-grandfather, worked the fields with few tools and ancient knowledge passed down through generations. It was a life shaped by seasons to be listened to, by rough hands, and by harvests that spoke to nature. But it was Grandpa Rocco who transformed that bond into vision: in 1938, he gave life to a conscious agricultural project, choosing the olive groves between Villa Castelli and Francavilla Fontana as his starting point. A journey of respect, dedication, and care began—the same path we still walk today.

From one year to the next, from season to season, time kept teaching. And those who listened made it their life’s work.

Angelo didn’t just leave behind a job—he passed on a way of seeing the world. Rocco, his son, embraced this legacy and turned farming into a daily practice of precision and respect. Then came Cosimo, a beloved professor and cultured man, who brought intellect and ethics into the soil.
His days passed between classrooms and fields, between words and actions, blending academic knowledge with rural wisdom. With him, the family landscape gained thoughtfulness and became conscious vision.
Some seeds take years to sprout. In the meantime, someone keeps caring for them.
Rocco inherited his father’s work with the awareness of each step that came before his. Agronomist, scholar, but above all son of the land, he chose to stay—to listen and to protect. Each field, each plant, each variety speaks to him in an ancient language he grew up with. But his gaze is also toward the future: he has turned the farm into a place of experience, blending research, education, and agricultural culture. For him, land is not just about production: it’s presence, dialogue, responsibility.

Those who inherit land inherit the duty to listen better. Because every future starts with a gesture that knows where it came from.

Today, Tratturi Reali is the mature fruit of a long and continuous journey in which each generation has added meaning, depth, and responsibility. The company is not just a place of production—it’s an agricultural, cultural, and educational laboratory. The most advanced farming technologies are combined with sustainable practices and native varieties. Educational programs and guided experiences tell the story of agriculture as culture, connection, and listening.
The land remains the protagonist, with its rhythms, its silences, and its strength. Those who work it daily are not only seeking the harvest, but also balance: between memory and innovation, between technical knowledge and daily care, between identity and future. Tratturi Reali today is exactly that: a path that continues, at a slow pace, with a focused gaze and strong roots.
